| "Bullying Sux" |
|
| The Coffs Harbour High School Anti-Bullying Program |
| This program has several integrated elements and our students are trained very early in Year 7 during our Valla Beach Peer Support and Anti-Bullying Camp. Further individual, intensive training days are conducted for Years 7 and 8, and our staff and parents are made aware of how the program works so that all stakeholders in the Coffs Harbour High School "Family" can have a consistent approach to tackling bullying.
This program is designed to equip our students with the skills to:
- Understand the school policy and procedures of reporting as well as the consequences of bullying and harassment.
- Identify types of behaviour that constitute bullying, harassment and intimidation.
- Speak out against bullying and thereby mobilise the largest and most powerful group involved in bullying ... the bystanders.
- Develop effective strategies to reduce bullying and harassment ... eg assertive responses to bullying, personal network for reporting bullying incidents.
- Realise when they are displaying bullying behaviour and develop strategies to help them to stop and to minimise harm they are causing themselves and those they bully.

| School Counsellor |
| The school counsellor is available to assist students to sort out problems, improve their relationships and improve their potential. This usually involves individual or small group counselling, however, it may also involve parent/caregivers or individual assessment. Confidentiality is a feature of counselling at school except in circumstances where the student is at risk of harm or may harm others. A school is available most days and can be contacted in two ways. Firstly, students may self refer by filling out a referral form placed on the noticeboard outside the counsellor's officer. After completing the form it is placed under the counsellor's door. You will be contacted with an appointment time. Secondly, parent/caregivers may contact the school to make an appointment with the School Counsellor. |
| The Peer Support Program |
| Peer Support is a program to develop friendships between junior and senior students. By using the school's most valuable resources - the students - we aim to guide and support young students through their junior years. When they become seniors it will be their turn to display leadership qualities and guidance for younger students.
The program is a two-way process. One or two trained Year 10 students care for small groups of Year 7 students. A specially trained teacher supports the program. The Year 10 students develop leadership and caring skills and the Year 7s discuss problems and learn positive values from their peers.
There is a 3-day excursion to Valla Beach Resort early in Term 1 to reinforce peer support. This is a very important excursion where many friendships are formed. Visit the photo gallery |
| Support for Aboriginal Students |
| Mr Merv Bolt is the School's Aboriginal Support Person. He liaises with students, staff and parents with regard to issues affecting the Aboriginal students. He also liaises with Aboriginal Community groups, co-ordinates and runs the school's Aboriginal resource room as well as Aboriginal programs and Cultural events. |
