In 2007, Coffs Harbour High School established a special class for students who have met the criteria as Gifted and/or Talented students.
Admission to this class was by application and interview.
The class was taught by a cohesive group of talented and committed teachers who volunteered to teach this class, knowing full well the extra demands it makes upon them.
The 2007 class proved to be so successful, it was repeated in 2008.
In 2008, there is a Year 7 and a Year 8 Enrichment class operating at this school.
It is anticipated that this special program will operate in 2009 for Years 7 & 8.
The curriculum is integrated between Subject areas and the teachers meet regularly to discuss and monitor the progress of individual students.
The aim of the teachers is to motivate and extend every student to exceed their personal best; to provide a variety of challenges; to develop advanced organisational skills; promote a positive work ethic in an environment where excellence is rewarded; to develop the ability to think laterally and to foster creative thinking skills.
