English Faculty
The English Faculty is one of the most experienced you could find. All teachers of Year 12 have extensive HSC marking experience which brings a phenomenal breadth of wisdom to the course. All teachers work to very high standards of discipline, literary standards and appropriate behaviour. They have a very strong interest in the welfare, learning and behaviour of their students. As a result, they will contact parents if a student is of concern. The staff are very enthusiastic in extending their students abilities just that lttle bit further. |
Texts - conditions of loan
Novels and play scripts are occasionally lent to students. It is the responsibility of the students to return the text in good condition otherwise a new replacement copy will be required. Films studied as part of the English program can be borrowed from the Library on a 2 day basis. Stapled booklets are to be returned or a $1 fee is charged. |
Public Speaking
Most Australians have a fear of Public Speaking - more than any other nation. Coffs High unashamedly has a very active Public Speaking program in all years. Students are taught, advised, counselled, prepared to give their speech on a topic they have an interest in. So many students have realised "they can do it" and progress with more confidence into the next year.
Debating
The English Dept is an advocate of debating. Most classes in Junior school will at some time be trained in the procedure and participate in a classroom debate. We enter teams in all the State competitions.
Competitions - extra curricula
Coffs High encourages students to participate in the UNSW Australian English competition. This is an excellent way for younger students to develop confidence in their literacy skills.
